Σοκολατένιο Bilby αντί για Πασχαλινό λαγουδάκι

Τα σοκολατένια bilbies που πωλούνται το Πάσχα , χρηματοδοτούν τη δράση για την προστασία του Bilby που απειλείται με εξαφάνιση (αποτελεί έδεσμα για αλεπούδες και αγριόγατες, ενώ ο βιότοπός τους χάνεται) Το bilby τρέφεται με ποντίκια, σαύρες, σκουλήκια, σαλιγκάρια, σπόρους, φρούτα και άλλα φυτά.

 Haigh's Chocolates and Darrell Lea continue to earmark proceeds to the candy's real-life counterparts.
Funds from chocolate sales have gone to anti-rabbit campaigns, as well as to projects that fence in thousands of acres of land to keep them free of cats and foxes, so that bilbies can be re-introduced.
 The money "goes a long way to helping pay for the construction of predator-proof fencing, captive breeding and labor-intensive monitoring," says Emily Miller , a biologist at the University of Sydney.
 "The sale of Easter bilbies instead of Easter bunnies has been very successful in increasing public awareness across Australia," says Miller.

5-4-12 SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA (NBC) - Australian conservationists want to replace the Easter Bunny with an animal that resembles a rabbit, but is indigenous to their country and endangered.
"The bilby is a beautiful, iconic, native animal that is struggling," said Mike Drinkwater of Wild Life Sydney "It is endangered, so it's important that we do all we can to support that."
