According to the latest info, Vasko Gligorijevic, the well-known Serb activist, strong criticizer of “Pseudomacedonism” and ardent Philhellene was arrested and is currently detained in Tetovo’s prison. What was his crime? Simply for expressing online views that are critical of the FYROM government and especially of the widely-imposed fictitious construstion of PseudoMacedonism. Unluckily this sad outcome verified in the worst way, the fears of Vasko himself, even about his own life, fears he had expressed in the last email he sent to one of his friends, before his dissappearance 4 days ago. We also remind the shocking case of the first arrest and detention of Vasko to the Bardovci Psychiatric Hospital about only 5 months ago. A case which resulted to inspire a gigantic outrage and International pressure against FYROM’s regime which resulted Vasko finally to be released.
The fact that FYROM’s regime arrests people solely because they criticize the state, speaks volumes about the government’s utter disregard for the most basic human rights. The suppresion of the freedom of speech is a strong indicator of fascism. Sadly some of the most famous criterias for fascism seem to apply at large for the modern state of FYROM. The leaders to use nationalist aggression to whip their people into ultra-nationalistic frenzy, suppression of basic human rights, Pervasive propaganda and the nasty habbit of demonising, discrediting, casting as “enemies/traitors” of their country, all those who happen to think differently and are bravely defying the official line of the FYROM’s government. Nomatter that these different opinions walk hand to hand with statements of established fact. Latest trend and a revival of old-communist detestable methods in FYROM is to throw the criticizers of the Regime like Vasko, to prisons or “psychiatric institutions” for certain periods of time.
The detention of the Serb Activist Vasko Gligorijevic is a blantant case of assault against international law, against fundamental Human Rights standards and undoubtedly prove that FYROM, a country aspiring to become a member of the EU and NATO, still cant get rid of its communist era’s mentality. International Organizations and especially Human Rights Agencies must publicly demand the immediate and unconditional release of the Serb Activist Vasko Gligorijevic.
