Wednesday 9th September,

Dear Sirs,

RE: On the SBS quiz show ADBC Tonight, contestant Caroline was corrected when she stated a historically accurate truth, namely that Alexander the Great’s heritage was Greek.

I am writing to you to express my extreme disappointment and horror at the (incorrect) correction of Caroline’s answer. This action on the part of your show blatantly repudiated historical truth by incorrectly divulging that Alexander the Great, one of two generals in recorded history never to have lost a battle (together with Tuthmose III of Egypt), was from the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) and not Hellenic by descent.

Unfortunately, that an educational program such as yours has been infiltrated so readily by the continuous propaganda of the FYROM’s chauvinist government is highly disconcerting to the Hellenic Dispora as the modern inheritors of ancient Greek culture and civilisation and more importantly, the plight of truthful scholastic inquiry.

The FYROM insists on violating international practices prescribed by the U.N by casting its dark veil of propaganda over the unassuming masses in a campaign of outright malevolence against the integrity and importance of Hellenic history in southern Europe by continually misleading and misinforming on historical matters. Furthermore, peoples’ ignorance of history, unwillingness to take initiative and educate themselves, lack of conscientiousness and to an extent, the lack of reaction on the part of the Hellenic Republic in disambiguating the matter, has precipitated a climate conducive to dangerous activities both in the U.K and abroad.

At this time, I will not engage you with a lengthy dissertation on historical truth. Any serious historian or scholar involved in critical inquiry will be able to honestly disclose the inextricable link between the kingdom of Ancient Macedonia (of which the legacy of Alexander the Great and the Macedonian kings formed a critical part) and modern Greece. The modern Hellenes are indisputably the rightful heirs of the Ancient Macedonian culture, and the history of Macedonia (the geographical region) is an integral part of Hellenic civilisation–its actors were the Macedonian Greeks, from before Alexander the Great to the Greeks of the Byzantine Empire and the contemporary ones. (http://macedonia-evidence.org/)

At this point, I will refer you to an enlightening expository work by Nicolaos K. Martis, titled The Falsification of Macedonian History: Ancient Jewish Sources and Testimony on Macedonia, a work to be commended as much for its historical accuracy as for its effective repudiation of communist propaganda spurred by Tito in his gargantuan effort to forge a cultural identity based on lies.

It is well known that a plethora of articles falsifying Hellenic history have been generated by pseudo-historians in print and on the internet. Their content is usually highly defamatory and offensive in nature. Maps of Macedonia circulate showing Skopje as the capital, while Kavala, Thessaloniki and other Greek precincts appear as sections of a unified Macedonia. Many Skopjian newspapers, in the U.K and abroad, are notorious for engaging such unlawful and unethical behaviour. Such publications express an organized campaign against Greece’s national integrity, aiming at the amputation of northern Greece and undermining the policy of peace in the Balkans–one adopted by the entire spectrum of political parties.

I am quite certain that this occurrence on your show, ADBC Tonight, was simply a case of misinformation by the hand of your nonchalant researchers and in no way insinuates ill will towards the Hellenic Republic or a furtive desire to partake in political propaganda against the state.

In closing, the AMAC prompts your show to disclose the truth of the matter publically by replaying the particular section under scrutiny insofar as to stress the Hellenic descent of Alexander the Great, and subsequently offering its sincerest apologies to the Hellenic Republic and its Diaspora for the tragic blunder.

Sincerely Yours,

Paul Kiritsis

Executive Director
