ΚΥΚΛΩΜΑ ΚΥΝΟΜΑΧΙΩΝ στις ΗΠΑ, διοργανωτής αγώνων συνελήφθη για ΦΟΝΟ

κατασχέθηκαν 46 πίτμπουλ, η έρευνα ξεκίνησε από ανώνυμη καταγγελία ενός ανθρώπου που είδε πολλά αλυσοδεμένα πίτμπουλ, στην πίσω αυλή κατοικίας στη λεωφόρο West KL Avenue στο  Oshtemo Township.
Η αστυνομία συνεργάστηκε με την Humane Society of the United States σε μια πεντάμηνη έρευνα.
Ο ιδιοκτήτης των πίτμπουλ, Kelvin Thomas, είχε συλληφθεί το 1992  ως θεατής κυνομαχιών στο Kalamazoo County -φυλακίστηκε ένα χρόνο για το αδίκημα αυτό-
Η έρευνα οδήγησε στη σύλληψη και άλλου υπόπτου, του Leonard  Turner που ζούσε κοντά στο Kalamazoo Township στο 300 block of Darling Road, όπου είχε μεγάλο αριθμό αλυσοδεμένων πίτμπουλ.
O Kelvin Thomas και ο Leonard Turner, συμμετείχαν σε οργανωμένο κύκλωμα κυνομαχιών και αντάλλασσαν τα ζώα τους με σκοπό την αναπαραγωγή τους.
ο Kelvin Eric Thomas δικάζεται για 4 κακουργήματα σχετικά με τις κυνομαχίες, αλλά και για παράνομη οπλοκατοχή.
Τα 32 πίτμπουλ που κατασχέθηκαν στο σπίτι του Thomas, ήταν τραυματισμένα και άρρωστα, ενώ στο υπόγειο του σπιτιού βρέθηκε η αρένα των κυνομαχιών και αίμα στους τοίχους και το δάπεδο.
Στο σπίτι του Leonard  Turner βρέθηκε επίσης αρένα πάλης σκύλων, και 14 τραυματισμένα πίτμπουλ.
Τα ζώα φιλοξενούνται προσωρινά σε καταφύγιο στο Portage
και η έρευνα συνεχίζεται

Authorities have arrested two men and seized 46 pit bulls as part of an investigation into a suspected dogfighting operation in southwestern Michigan.

"Both operations are consistent with dog fighting ops we assist nationally. The dogs were chained on heavy chain to car axles, their dog houses were either wooden dog houses or blue barrels, which is very common. Many of the dogs have scaring and injuries," said Chris Schindler, Manager of Animal Fighting Investigations of Humane Society of the United States.

6-8-12   Dogfighting suspect arrested on murder charges

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Police were looking for another suspect they say was connected to the dog fighting rings broken up Friday and Monday--but he was already wanted on murder charges.

Police arrested Sam Steele near Atlanta, Georgia.
Steele is wanted for the murder of 35-year-old Milo Conklin, who was shot and killed on Mabel Street in Kalamazoo in April of last year.

Should illegal dogfighting be legal to watch?

One Iowa Congressman doesn’t believe it should be illegal to witness a dog fight and would like to see the law changed.
Rep. Steve King (R) compares dogfighting to sports involving humans battling it out, saying that if it’s legal to not only allow spectators, but also to encourage activites involving people, then it shouldn’t be illegal to watch animals fight. (See video below).

His logic holds no water since people aren’t forced to fight, and either participant or management may call a halt at any time. Not so with animals whose only purpose is to fight, even to the death, for human entertainment.
