Ο βάτραχος Hyloscirtus princecharlesi, ή «ο πηδηχτός δασόβιος βάτραχος του πρίγκιπα Καρόλου», ήταν ένα από τα αμφίβια που συλλέχθηκαν στη διάρκεια αποστολής στο Εθνικό Πάρκο Cotacachi-Cayapas, του Εκουαδόρ το 2008.
H ομάδα του Δρ Luis A. Coloma δημοσιεύει τώρα την περιγραφή του αμφιβίου ως νέου είδους στην επιθεώρηση Zootaxa.
O Hyloscirtus princecharlesi έχει ήδη καταταχθεί στα απειλούμενα είδη, καθώς το ενδιαίτημά του συρρικνώνεται λόγω της αποψίλωσης για δημιουργία καλλιεργήσιμων εκτάσεων.
Στο πλαίσιο του προγράμματος Amphibian Ark για την προστασία των αμφίβιων, οι ερευνητές κρατούν τώρα δύο νεαρούς βατράχους με την ελπίδα ότι θα ζευγαρώσουν υπό αιχμαλωσία

A newly discovered tree frog has been named after Prince Charles in recognition of his charity work to protect their rainforest homes. Hyloscirtus princecharlesi, or the Prince Charles stream tree frog, was first discovered by Dr. Luis A. Coloma in 2008 amongst specimens collected for a museum
