Φωτογραφίες της φιλοζωικής οργάνωσης People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) παρουσίαζαν φοβισμένα σκυλιά beagles να ταξιδεύουν μέσα σε μικρά κλουβιά μεταφοράς ζώων αεροπορικώς, με αεροπλάνο της Lufthansa, με προορισμό τα εργαστήρια πειραμάτων Charles River Laboratories' (CRL) στη Σκωτία.
Lufthansa airlines prohibits transport of dogs and cats to laboratories

Photos released by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) showing frightened beagles cowering in small transport crates onboard a Lufthansa airlines flight that was headed toward Charles River Laboratories (CRL) in Scotland for use in poisonous and lethal drug and pesticide experiments has touched off a firestorm of controversy, prompting the airline to immediately ban all transport of dogs and cats to laboratories.
CRL has a long history of violating the U.S. Animal Welfare Act (AWA), which landed CEO James Foster in the number two position on PETA's list of the "10 Worst CEO's for Animals in Laboratories." Notes PETA:
A summary of Charles River Laboratories' AWA violations reads like a criminal indictment—inadequate veterinary care; failure to provide pain relief to suffering animals; inadequate housing, causing a high incidence of foot injuries in dogs; failure to investigate non-animal alternatives to experiments involving severe suffering; and at least a dozen other violations in 2005 alone.
Since 2007, CRL violated federal animal protection laws more than 24 times and the U.S. Department of Agriculture recently fined the company $14,000 for the negligent deaths of 33 monkeys at their Reno and Sparks, Nevada, laboratories.
PETA is now urging Lufthansa to go one step further and join progresive leads taken by Cathay Pacific and Qantas airlines, which prohibit the transport of all animals, including mice and rats, to laboratories.

Victory for Dogs and Cats Being Shipped to Death in Labs!
Less than 24 hours after we asked for your help in stopping Lufthansa Airlines from shipping dogs to their death at Charles River Laboratories, we've heard from the company that your compassionate words have made all the difference. Lufthansa Airlines has agreed to stop shipping dogs or cats for use in experiments
Because thousands of you spoke up for these animals, Lufthansa Airlines will no longer profit off of or facilitate the suffering of dogs and cats. PETA is currently in discussions with Lufthansa concerning additional animal-friendly measures that can be taken to protect animals of other species.
