Εκπαίδευση αδέσποτων σκύλων, για προώθηση υιοθεσίας τους

Η οργάνωση για την προστασία ζώων «Aukland SPCA» στη Νέα Ζηλανδία, εκπαίδευσε τρία σκυλάκια του καταφυγίου της, να οδηγούν αυτοκίνητο. Τη Δευτέρα, σε ζωντανή μετάδοση τα εκπαιδευμένα σκυλιά θα οδηγήσουν ένα ειδικά διαμορφωμένο Μίνι Κούπερ.

Η Aukland SPCA (New Zealand Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) επιδιώκει να υιοθετηθούν αυτά τα ζώα. Με την ικανότητά τους για οδήγηση αποδεικνύουν τη νοημοσύνη τους και ότι δεν είναι σκύλοι Β΄κατηγορίας.
Πρόκειται για τον 10 μηνών Porter, (διασταύρωση με beardie ), την 18μηνη Monty, (διασταύρωση με Giant Schnauzer) και τον ενός έτους Ginnie (διασταύρωση με Beardie Whippet)
Η νοημοσύνη των σκύλων αποδεικνύεται συνεχώς, στην καθημερινότητα που μοιραζόμαστε μαζί τους. Συχνά η συναισθηματική τους νοημοσύνη αποδεικνύεται ανώτερη από την ανθρώπινη συναισθηματική νοημοσύνη.
Η εκπαίδευση τους να οδηγούν αυτοκίνητο, ίσως τα βοηθά να προσαρμόζονται στο περιβάλλον του αυτοκινήτου. Αλλά για να είμαστε ήσυχοι, ένας εκπαιδευμένος στην οδήγηση σκύλος δεν πρέπει να μένει μόνος του στο αυτοκίνητο, ούτε για λίγα λεπτά.

If it’s wrong to strap a panda into a Fiat 500 for a crash test then Fiat is as wrong as wrong can be. In a series of new print advertisements, the Italian automaker shows a Fiat 500 being smashed from various angles with wildlife animals seated inside the car as crash test dummies.
The point is that Fiats are safe for the environment as well as their passengers. In addition to a panda who endures a brutal head-on collision, other animals used in the freeze framed carnage include a walrus and a couple of penguins, which is truly absurd when you consider the average penguin is far too short to operate a motor vehicle.

Οι µεγάλες αυτοκινητοβιοµηχανίες δε χρησιμοποιούν πλέον ζώα. Το 1993 η General Motors κατάργησε τις δοκιµές µε ζώα και έπειτα ακολούθησαν  οι υπόλοιποι κατασκευαστές.

About 19,000 dogs, rabbits, pigs, ferrets, rats and mice have been killed during the last decade in automobile safety tests performed by the General Motors Corporation, a company spokesman said today.
The spokesman, Don Postma, said the tests helped to reduce injuries to drivers and passengers and were performed on animals that had been anesthetized. The comments were made in response to a report today by The Detroit News about the testing.
The testing was condemned by a leading animal rights organization, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, which called for a boycott of General Motors products.
The News said the animals, most of them rodents but also including hundreds of dogs and rabbits, had been killed since 1981 in tests that the company said it could not perform with computers or dummies alone. The Ford Motor Company and the Chrysler Corporation do not perform tests on animals but have access to G.M.'s research results.
That use of animals in the tests was attacked by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, a group based in Rockville, Md., that opposes all animal testing. "In an age when computer models and state-of-the-art dummies are the order of the day, they're still killing innocent animals in the name of science," said Dan Mathews, the group's special projects director.
Because of advances in the use of computer models and dummies, most such testing of animals has been phased out since it was started in the 1970's, said George Parker, director of research and development for the Government's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Mr. Postma said the company still did a "relatively minor amount" of animal testing. They include experiments that result in skin shredding, chest injury and polluting of the lungs with auto emissions.
Mr. Postma said about 19,000 animals were killed in testing in the last decade, mostly mice and rats.
