Έντονη είναι η  ανησυχία των επιστημόνων για τις ισχυρές ηλιακές εκρήξεις που πλήττουν τη γη με υψηλού επιπέδου μαγνητική ενέργεια.

Τρεις ηλιακές καταιγίδες έχουμε αυτή τη βδομάδα, Την Πέμπτη, η πρώτη χτύπησε ήδη τη γη χωρίς μεγάλο αντίκτυπο, η δεύτερη είναι σε εξέλιξη και είναι ισχυρότερη.

κάθε 22 χρόνια, ο κύκλος της μαγνητικής ενέργειας του Ήλιου κορυφώνεται ενώ ο αριθμός των ηλιακών εκρήξεων φτάνει στο μέγιστο κάθε 12 χρόνια. Το 2013  τα δύο αυτά γεγονότα συνδυάζονται, ενώ προβλέπεται ότι θα πλήξει τη γη μία ηλιακή καταιγίδα τεραστίων διαστάσεων.

Η μαγνητική καταιγίδα που προκαλούν οι εκρήξεις στην επιφάνεια του ήλιου μπορεί να προκαλέσει προβλήματα στις δορυφορικές επικοινωνίες και ίσως σε κάποιες περιοχές να επηρεάσει ακόμη και την ηλεκτροδότηση. Θα διαταράξει ότι είναι ηλεκτρονικό, τηλεπικοινωνίες, δορυφόρους, αεροπορικά ταξίδια, τράπεζες, υπολογιστές,.

Οι ηλιακές εκρήξεις μεταβάλλουν το μαγνητικό πεδίο της γης πολύ γρήγορα σαν κεραυνός.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Three large explosions from the Sun over the past few days have prompted U.S. government scientists to caution users of satellite, telecommunications and electric equipment to prepare for possible disruptions over the next few days.

"The magnetic storm that is soon to develop probably will be in the moderate to strong level," said Joseph Kunches, a space weather scientist at the Space Weather Prediction Center, a division of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

He said solar storms this week could affect communications and global positioning system (GPS) satellites and might even produce an aurora visible as far south as Minnesota and Wisconsin.

"I don't think this week's solar storms will be anywhere near that. This will be a two or three out of five on the NOAA Space Weather Scale," said Kunches.

SOLAR SCALE

The NOAA Space Weather Scale measures the intensity of a solar storm from one being the lowest intensity to five being the highest, similar to scales that measure the severity of hurricanes, tornadoes and earthquakes.

The first of the three solar explosions from the sun this week already passed the Earth on Thursday with little impact, Kunches said, noting, the second was passing the Earth now and "seems to be stronger."

And the third, he said, "We'll have to see what happens over the next few days. It could exacerbate the disturbance in the Earth's magnetic field caused by the second (storm) or do nothing at all."

Power grid managers receive alerts from the Space Weather Prediction Center to tell them to prepare for solar events, which peak about every 12 years, Tom Bogdan, director of the center said.

He said the next peak, called a solar maximum, was expected in 2013.

"We're coming up to the next solar maximum, so we expect to see more of these storms coming from the sun over the next three to five years," Bogdan said.

You probably already know what solar flares are. Those violent explosions in the Sun’s atmosphere release huge bursts of energy that can match that of millions of hydrogen bombs released in unison. Solar flares heat the Sun’s gas to temperatures of many millions of kelvins. They speed up electrons, protons, and ions to near the speed of light, and produce tremendous electromagnetic radiation.

Sun flares affect geomagnetic fields, but what do they have to do with migraine headaches? Are there such things as solar flares migraine headaches?

Geomagnetic Activity and Your Health

According to relatively recent studies, changes in geomagnetic activity can affect cardiovascular health. There is reason to believe that GMA, specifically solar flares, can affect other areas of health as well.

Solar Flares and Migraine Headaches

One observation linking GMA and migraines found that more severe migraine headaches are seen at hospitals on days with high levels of GMA. That means that when solar flares influence “active” or “stormy” levels of geomagnetic activity, doctors and nurses can prepare for patients with more serious migraine headaches to present themselves for treatment.

The relationship of solar flares and migraine headaches is strong. It has been shown that there is significant correlation between the two.
