FREELAND, ΕΞΑΡΘΡΩΣΗ ΚΥΚΛΩΜΑΤΟΣ ΛΑΘΡΕΜΠΟΡΙΟΥ ΤΙΓΡΕΩΝ

22-5-2011 Μπανγκόκ, Η αστυνομία της Ταϊλάνδης συνέλαβε τον 49χρονο Sudjai Chantavong, που κατέχει ρόλο-κλειδί σε κύκλωμα λαθρεμπορίου τίγρεων.
Ο Chantavong καταζητείται από πέρυσι που εκδόθηκε ένταλμα σύλληψής του, μετά από κατάσχεση μιας τίγρης της Βεγγάλης (η τίγρης σήμερα είναι 15 μηνών και η εξοικείωσή της με τον άνθρωπο δείχνει ότι γεννήθηκε σε αιχμαλωσία).
Το παράνομο κύκλωμα, εμπορεύεται τίγρεις που τις πουλάει κυρίως στην Κίνα, και οι δρόμοι αυτού του λαθρεμπορίου περνούν μέσα από το Λάος και το Βιετνάμ.
Οι αστυνομικές αρχές συνεργάζονται στην επιχείρηση εξάρθρωσης του κυκλώματος με το FREELAND Foundation, που εδρεύει στην Ταϊλάνδη.

Μπανγκόκ, -Suvarnabhumi International Airport-
η αστυνομία της Ταϊλάνδης συνέλαβε τον 36χρονο Noor Mahmoodr, πολίτη των Ηνωμένων Αραβικών Εμιράτων σε first class πτήση με προορισμό το Νουμπάι.
Ο Noor Mahmoodr θεωρείται εγκέφαλος οργανωμένου δικτύου παράνομης διακίνησης αγρίων ζώων.
Μέσα στις αποσκευές του εντοπίστηκαν ναρκωμένα νεογέννητα άγρια ζώα, ανάμεσά τους δύο λεοπαρδάλεις, δύο πάνθηρες, μια Malayan sun αρκούδα δύο macaque πίθηκοι και διάφορα άλλα είδη άγριας ζωής (whitecheeked gibbon, black-tufted marmoset κλπ)
Μερικά άγρια ζώα ήταν κλεισμένα μέσα σε μεταλλικούς κυλίνδρους με τρύπες αερισμού.
Η Ταϊλάνδη αποτελεί κομβικό σημείο για τα παράνομα κυκλώματα λαθρεμπορίου άγριας ζωής. Η FREELAND Foundation εργάζεται για την πάταξη της εγκληματικής αυτής δραστηριότητας.

13-5-2011 Operation Foils Emirate Wildlife Trafficker at Bangkok Airport
(Bangkok,)--Thai Police arrested a UAE citizen just after midnight today as he was preparing to fly first class from Bangkok to Dubai with various rare and endangered animals in his suitcases. Undercover officers from the Thai Nature Crime Police had been monitoring the suspect from his illegal purchase to the moment he stepped into Bangkok's Suvarnabuhmi Airport where he was observed receiving several suitcases from another suspect packed with the animals, all of which were all still alive. Noor Mahmoodr, a 36 year old male from UAE was then apprehended by police and taken into custody at Rajatheva Police Station, while veterinarians took immediate care of the animals, which included: 2 leopards, 2 panthers, 1 Asiatic black bear, and 2 macaque monkeys.
FREELAND's investigation support team in a new National Geographic TV series that airs next week across Asia. Entitled "Crimes Against Nature", the 4 part series follows the undercover exploits of the task force as they go after organized crime rings trafficking in rare and endangered animals.

FREELAND has provided training to Thailand's task force through support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Save the Tiger Fund.

Μπανγκόκ, 31χρονη Ταϊλανδέζα συνελήφθη στο αεροδρόμιο, όταν οι σαρωτές εντόπισαν στις αποσκευές της ένα ναρκωμένο τιγράκι τριών μηνών.
Σύμφωνα με την Traffic (wildlife trade monitoring group) το ζώο ήταν εξουθενωμένο, αφυδατωμένο, αδύναμο να περπατήσει και του χορηγήθηκε οξυγόνο, νερό και γάλα.
